NYSSCA ANNOUNCES PERMANENT HOME FOR HALL OF FAME
|
by Ron Hedger
May 27, 2004 - The New York tate Stock Car Association has reached an agreement with the Saratoga Automobile Museum to develop a permanent exhibit honoring the members of the NYSSCA Hall of Fame.
"Museum Board member and Racing Across New York gallery coordinator Ron Hedger is also the Chairman of the NYSSCA Hall of Fame committee. He knew how much it would mean to the Hall of Fame members and their families to have the display available for viewing year around and brought the NYSSCA people and the museum together" said Executive Director Frank Gardner.
"Preserving the history of auto racing is a major part of our mission and this project, along with the recent addition of a display for the Mohawk-Hudson region of the SCCA, will fit perfectly with our display of historic race cars."
The names of the nearly 100 NYSSCA Hall of Fame members will be engraved on a free-standing display that will include a description of the organization and it’s mission while a nearby showcase will contain a rotating exhibit of memorabilia.
"This is exactly what we were looking for" said NYSSCA Board of Directors member Nick Ronca. "In the past, new Hall of Fame members were inducted at our annual banquet but we had no permanent way to honor everyone. The Saratoga Auto Museum is a first class facility and now everyone who visits the museum will know about our Hall of Fame."
Once the display is complete, NYSSCA and the Museum staff will announce an unveiling date, with all Hall of Fame members invited to attend. The museum, located on the Avenue of the Pines in the Saratoga Spa State Park, currently has a track roadster driven by Hall of Fame member Pete Corey on display in the Racing Across New York gallery. |
