UNVEILING OF NEW HALL OF FAME DISPLAY
|
NEW NYSSCA HALL OF FAME DISPLAY SET FOR UNVEILING Fans, racers, officials and the media will get their first look at the New York State Stock Car Association’s new Hall of Fame display at the Saratoga Automobile Museum on Saturday, January 20th.
Scheduled for noon in the museum’s Racing in New York gallery, the ceremony will feature DIRT and Lebanon Valley Speedway Pro-Stock kingpin Jim Langenback and ace NASCAR flagger John Tallini, set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame that evening at NYSSCA’a annual awards banquet at the Turf Inn on Wolf Road in Albany.
Two more inductees, Merv Treichler and Chuck Akulis, will miss the event due to long-scheduled vacation plans but noted author and racing book publisher Lew Boyd and former NYSSCA President John Keegan will speak on behalf of the absent DIRT legends.
The event will also give race fans their first look at the #97 VW mini-stock recently restored by Hall of Fame driver/owner/mechanic Bob Hackel of Albany. The car is one of the unique "station wagons" that Hackel used when he raced every night of the week and was the undisputed king of the division, winning races from New York to Florida.
All members of the Hall of Fame and a guest are invited to attend as guests of NYSSCA and the museum to meet their fans from years past. Current NYSSCA members will be admitted to the museum for half price.
Sponsorship for the revamped Hall of Fame exhibit and other Racing in New York programs was provided by long-time racing supporter George Rifenburg and Rifenburg Construction, Inc. of Troy, NY.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located between Rt. 9 and Rt. 50 on the Avenue of the Pines in the Saratoga Spa State Park. |
