EDMESTON, NY – John Keegan of Edmeston has been elected the new President of the New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA).

Keegan, 53, will begin serving the association when the New Year rings in on January 1. He has been involved in racing his entire life, as he grew up going to the races at the Hornell and Woodhull Raceways. In recent years, he has raced himself and fielded a Pro Stock race team at the Fonda and Utica-Rome Speedways with great success. Most recently, he has served on the NYSSCA Board of Directors and he has also been the Utica-Rome Speedway NYSSCA track representative.

NYSSCA Officers for the 2002 race season are: John Keegan (President), Al Sommer (Vice President), Kelley Keefe (Secretary), JoAnn Flanigan (Treasurer), and Dave Horning Sr. (Sargeant at Arms). Board Members include Artie McCarty, Nick Ronca, Gail Riley, Don Champion, Aaron Miller, Brian Bedell, and Tom Remington.

NYSSCA boasts members in twelve different states with a concentration in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. The NYSSCA membership participates at tracks all over the Northeast and Canada, and NYSSCA Member Tracks include Afton Raceway, Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Fonda Speedway, Lebanon Valley Speedway, and Utica-Rome Speedway in New York. Devils-Bowl Speedway in Vermont is also a NYSSCA Member Track.

There are many benefits of being a NYSSCA member if you are involved in auto racing. Members have access to the Injured Member’s Benefit Fund, Membership Appreciation Awards, Yearbook, Awards Banquet, Hall of Fame, and Newsletter. NYSSCA Membership is open to anyone including all drivers, owners, fans, press, sponsors, and other members of the racing fraternity..

The next scheduled NYSSCA function is the annual Awards Banquet, and it is set for January 19, 2002 at the Polish Community Center in Albany, New York. Drivers at the NYSSCA sanctioned tracks will be receiving awards based on the 2001 race season, and the annual Hall of Fame ceremonies will induct racing legends Bob Mott and Dutch Hoag into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
