HALL
OF FAME COMPLETION A BEGINNING, NOT AN END
Saratoga Springs, NY When the
New York State Stock Car Association's Hall of Fame display opens in the
Saratoga Automobile Museum at 2 pm on Saturday,
January 29th it will mark the end of one process and the beginning of
another.
"The design and construction processes are complete and visitors can enjoy
looking at the photos of current members of the Hall of Fame and discussing
the golden days of racing" said exhibit coordinator Ron Hedger. "But the
next phase is equally important to keeping the history of racing in the
Empire State alive. We want to change our displays regularly and schedule
events that will keep the memories alive for the region's many race fans and
participants."
To that end, the auto museum will have an adjacent showcase filled with Hall
of Fame memorabilia and two cars in the Racing Across New York gallery
related to the history of the New York State Stock Car Association.
"We currently have a track roadster driven by Hall of Fame members Bob
Whitbeck and Pete Corey and member Vince Quenneville's last modified on
display and a great wish list for the future" said Hedger. "I'd like to show
the public cars driven by Richie Evans, Bernie Miller, Ernie Marshall and
all of the other stars of the past. And while the showcase now features
memorabilia from Steve Danish and CJ Richards, we're asking Hall of Fame
members to supply interesting items to keep the showcase fresh in the
future."
The public's first look at the display on the 29th will include remarks by
NYSSCA President John Keegan, brief interviews of Hall of Fame members on
hand and an autograph and discussion session.
Suggestions pertaining to available cars and memorabilia as well as seminars
and programs of interest to race fans and participants can be directed to
Hedger by e-mail at rjhmedia@juno.com
or by calling 518-885-7481.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located on the Avenue of the Pines in the
Saratoga Spa State Park. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10
am to 5 pm. Admission is $7 for adults or $5 for seniors.
